Reflecting telescope A reflecting telescope also called a reflector is a telescope that uses a single or a combination of curved mirrors that reflect light and form an image. The reflecting telescope was invented in the th century, by Isaac Newton, as an alternative to the refracting telescope which, at that time, was a design that suffered from severe chromatic aberration. Amateur Telescope Optics Optical aberrations in amateur telescopes Includes principles of physical and optical imaging with detailed review of primary aberrations Also, aberrations in popular reflecting, refracting and catadioptric telescope objectives, telescope eyepiece and human eye. This is a great classical book. In another edition, it would have received four stars. But this a poor, on demand, reprint of the second edition. Some pages are even dirty with ink from the printers' The typography is ruined by the uneven black throughout the text' The paper is cheap, white paper' Besides, a diagram that in the original 2nd edition was folded because it was larger than the book size, in this edition is offered as "Extra online material", so you can print it yourself and add to t [...]

The two volumes on Reflecting Telescope optics are a great resource. The problem is that these are listed as new, but not printed on glossy paper, with much poorer photos and graphs. The description should incidate that these are the equivalent of "instant print" editions. Also the binding is much poorer. I have the original versions from the university library as a comparision. I would suggest always inquiring whether they are an original printing when listed as new, or even in fine condition. [...]

But if you need it then I guess you just bite the bullet and buy it! It is loaded with math, calculus and FFT's, just like a good book on optics should have.

Raymond Williams has done us all a great service in clearly writing this two volume set on current practice in reflecting telescope optics
